Welcome to the Des Moines West Side Chamber of Commerce
3rd Annual Fundraiser Event June 19th, 2014
What a wonderful time we had, despite Mother Nature's stormy interruption!
We're excited that we exceeded our attendance goals and we look forward to the 2015 Summer Porch Sipper.
Our special thank you to Victoria, Steven and Travis Smith for so graciously hosting us in their beautiful home.
Also we can't thank our sponsoring members enough for making the 2014 Porch Sipper such a grand success.
About the West Side Chamber
Our mission is to serve our community by supporting and enhancing the unique quality of life and commerce that defines the Des Moines West Side.
Des Moines' West Side is an established area of our city with a rich history in niche retail and service businesses, higher education, restaurants, boutique professional offices, cultural amenities, and not-for-profits. From the sole proprietor coffee houses to our major universities, this area boasts a diverse employment base
Substantial investments have been made in the renaissance of the various cultural and business centers including the Ingersoll corridor, Roosevelt shopping district and the Drake area which attract customers from all over the greater Des Moines area and tourists visiting our city - also the Beaverdale shopping area and the Merle Hay Mall with reinvestment and renovations currently underway.
The vision for the Des Moines West Side Chamber of Commerce is to provide services such as:
An important issue passed by the legislature this year is the Home Base Iowa Act proposed by Governor Terry Branstad. "Through their service, veterans have already proven they share the values we hold dear as Iowans - hard work, leadership, and patriotism, among others. Home Base Iowa allows veterans to find the right job for them in Iowa, and to become a part of our communities". Iowa Workforce Development is helping in this effort.
